Kishtwar, Apr 15, : A senior lawyer allegedly died by suicide in Kishtwar district after reportedly shooting himself with his licensed firearm, officials said on Tuesday.
The deceased, identified as Ghulam Nabi Zargar, was in his eighties and a resident of Alyarabad locality in Kishtwar town. According to officials, the incident took place late Monday night at around 11 pm at his home.
Preliminary findings suggest that Zargar may have been battling depression and used his 12-bore licensed gun to take his own life.
Police said the body was taken to a hospital for medico-legal formalities, including post-mortem, and was later handed over to the family for last rites.
Authorities have initiated inquest proceedings to further investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
