J&K Police crack theft case within 24 hours in Bandipora; Stolen Cash recovered, 01 arrested*

*September 15:* “`J&K Police in Bandipora have cracked a theft case within 24 Hours of receiving a complaint, regarding the theft of βΉ3.30 lakh in cash from a house in Bazipora Ajas.
On September 14, 2026, Police Post Ajas received a written complaint from Ghulam Nabi Mir son of Ghulam Mohd Mir, resident of Ajas Bazipora, stating that on September 13- 2026, some unknown persons had entered his house and stolen cash amounting to βΉ3,30,000.
Accordingly, a case FIR under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Sumbal and investigation was taken up. During the course of investigation, police teams examined technical evidence and CCTV footage and questioned several suspects. Through sustained investigation and analysis of available evidence, a lead was developed and one suspect, identified as Tawfeeq Ahmad Kalwathoo son of Ghulam Mohd Kalwathoo resident of Bakshibal, Hajin, was identified and subsequently apprehended. During questioning, the accused allegedly disclosed his involvement in the theft and revealed that he had spent βΉ20,000 of the stolen amount on purchasing a motorcycle and βΉ16,000 on a mobile phone, while the remaining cash had been kept in his room.
On the basis of the disclosure, a police team conducted a search of the specified premises and recovered the remaining stolen cash from the accusedβs room. The motorcycle and mobile phone allegedly purchased from the stolen proceeds have also been taken into possession as part of the investigation.“`
