No crescent sighting reported in J&K so far, final call after 8:30 PM

Srinagar, March 19, No confirmed sighting of the crescent moon has been reported from any part of Jammu and Kashmir so far, the Grand Mufti said on Thursday evening.

The announcement comes amid widespread cloud cover and inclement weather conditions across the region, significantly reducing the chances of visibility.

The update is crucial as the sighting of the crescent determines the end of the holy month of Ramadan and the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr.

The Grand Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam said that weather conditions remain unfavourable, with dense cloud cover persisting over most parts of the Valley, making moon sighting difficult.

“There has been no confirmed report of moon sighting from any area so far,” the Grand Mufti said, adding that observers have been advised to continue monitoring the skies.

He asked people to wait until 8:30 PM, after which a final announcement regarding the sighting will be made.

He said scholars said that such situations are not uncommon, especially when weather conditions interfere with visibility during the narrow window after sunset.
