*Anantnag Police Continues Crackdown on Drug Trafficking; 02 Peddlers Arrested, 8.801 Kg Contraband Seized in Two Separate Operations*
Anantnag, 19 July 2026:
Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Anantnag Police achieved another major success by apprehending two drug peddlers in separate operations and recovering a total of 8.801 kilograms of narcotic substances.
In the first operation, a police party of Police Station Achabal during naka checking at Kanganhal intercepted and apprehended one person identified as Zubair Majeed Lone, son of Abdul Majeed Lone, resident of Tailwani. During his personal search, the police recovered 1 kilogram and 700 grams of ganja powder-like substance from his possession.
Accordingly, FIR No. 76/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Achabal, and further investigation is underway.
In another successful operation, a police party of Police Station Bijbehara during naka checking at Doodhnaad, Waghama, apprehended one drug peddler identified as Imran Nazir Dass, son of Nazir Ahmad Dass, resident of Waghama, Bijbehara. During the operation, another accused, Irshad Ahmad Dass, son of Ghulam Hassan Dass, resident of Waghama, managed to flee from the spot.
During the search, the police recovered two bags containing 7 kilograms and 101 grams of poppy straw from the spot.
In this connection, FIR No. 221/2026 under Sections 8/15 and 29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Bijbehara. Efforts are underway to apprehend the absconding accused, while further investigation is in progress.
