*IMD Issues Heavy Rain Warning For Jammu Region, Flash Flood Risk Likely On July 20*

Srinagar, July 20 :The India Meteorological Department’s Srinagar centre issued a weather warning for heavy rain and thunderstorms in multiple districts of Jammu region, with a fresh risk of flash floods and landslides.

a spell of heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers with thunder and lightning is most likely to occur at many places over Jammu, Kathua, Rajouri, Poonch, Reasi, Samba and Udhampur between 3:00 AM and 09:30 AM on July 20.

The department has also forecast the possibility of flash floods, landslides and mudslides at a few places during the period and urged people to stay alert and safe.

The advisory comes just days after the MeT Srinagar had issued an advisory about adverse weather conditions across J&K.

The warning assumes significance as flash floods triggered by heavy rains claimed 17 lives in Rajouri and Poonch divisions on Saturday, while several people are still reported missing and rescue operations are underway.

Authorities have advised residents living in low-lying areas, near nallahs and landslide-prone zones to remain cautious and follow administration advisories.
