The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Thursday trapped and arrested a lady official of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC), who was posted as Building Inspector in the Batamaloo area of Srinagar.
That the ACB laid a trap following a complaint alleging that the official identified as Gazala Bano, a resident of Bemina, had demanded a bribe in connection with an official matter related to building/construction activity in the area.
The trap was laid by a team of the ACB after verification of the complaint. The official was allegedly caught while accepting the bribe amount and was subsequently taken into custody.
The accused official was serving as Building Inspector of Ward No. 28 (Batamaloo) of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
The ACB has registered a formal case under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act and taken up further investigation.
Further details regarding the amount of bribe, the complainant and the exact circumstances of the trap are awaited.
