DoSW Anantnag Organises Range of Pan-district Programmes to Mark ‘National Senior Citizens Day’

Srinagar, Aug 21:Department of Social Welfare, district Anantnag, organized a range of pan district programs to mark the ‘National Senior Citizens Day’ – held each year on August 21.

The department carried out a range of “senior citizen centric” programs and celebrations in different Tehsils of district, under the directions of District Social Welfare Officer Anantnag.

At Tehsil Shangus, a Mega Awareness cum Recreational activity camp was held which commenced with BDC Chairman Mr Talib Hussain flagging off a bus carrying senior citizens to Mughal Garden Achabal. The bus was flagged in presence of Member Senior citizen committee at District level Mr peerzada Mohd Shafi and Tehsil Social Welfare Officer Shangus . Peerzada Mohd Shafi was the chief guest of the event. In the event Advocate Peerzada Mohd Shafi informed the senior citizens about elder abuse besides making them aware about their rights and legislations enacted in this regard. As a goodwill gesture, the department held this interactive session at Mughal garden Achabal, which is a famous picnic spot. The participants were served refreshment.

A free health check up was conducted with active support from the local health department. At the end of program, an accompanying officer from social welfare Mr Raouf Hamid Shah offered vote of thanks to BDC chairman shangus, worthy chairman Tehsil legal service committee shangus and member senior citizen committee; Mr peerzada Mohd Shafi, BMO Achabal and senior citizens who participated in the event for making the event a grand success.

Many senior citizens were felicitated by the department on this occasion for their services and welfare centric contribution towards the society.
