Kulgam Police Attaches House Worth Rs 51 Lakh in NDPS Case

Kulgam, May 23, : Kulgam Police on Friday said it attached a double-storey residential house belonging to an accused involved in a narcotics case as part of its continuing drive against drug trafficking and properties allegedly acquired through illicit proceeds.
The attached property belongs to Umar Yousuf Rather of Chinigam and is linked to FIR No. 69/2021 registered under Sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Yaripora, police said.
According to police, the action was carried out under provisions of Section 68-F of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act through the competent authority, SAFEMA, in the presence of revenue officials.
Police said the attached property comprises a double-storey residential house with an estimated present market value of nearly Rs 51 lakh.
The attachment forms part of intensified measures being undertaken by law enforcement agencies in south Kashmir targeting not only narcotics trafficking but also assets suspected to have been acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal drug trade.
Police said the action was taken after following legal procedure under provisions governing forfeiture and freezing of properties linked to narcotics offences.
Kulgam Police said it remains committed to curbing drug trafficking and dismantling financial networks associated with narcotics activities.
The district police has in recent past undertaken multiple actions under the NDPS Act, including arrests, seizures and attachment proceedings aimed at disrupting drug supply chains and deterring trafficking.
Police also appealed to the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and share information related to drug peddling and criminal activity.
Authorities assured that the identity of informers would be kept strictly confidential.
