Kupwara man tries to jump off telecom tower, comes down after counselling from Police

Budgam, Apr 23: A man from frontier district Kupwara tried to jump off from a telecom tower in Central Kashmirโ€™s Budgam district, however after counselling from the police, he changed his mind and came down.

The incident occurred in Humhama area of Budgam on the second day of Eid-ul-Fitr today.

A police official told news agency Kashmir News Trust that a man climbed over a telecom tower with the intention to commit suicide.

โ€œHe had really gone very high up in fact on top of the tower and he was threatening to commit suicide,โ€ he said adding that after several hours of counselling by the cops from Humhama Police Station the man came down.

Hundreds of people including passers-by looked on while police coaxed him and managed to save his life.

The man has been identified as Kaisar Ahmed Khan son of Ghulam Muhammad, a resident of Madina Colony Kupwara.

If sources are to be believed, the 32-year-old man who is a shopkeeper by profession is a psychiatrist patient.

โ€œHe will be handed over to his family members and efforts are on to know the reason behind his suicide attempt,โ€ said the official. (Agencies)
