IMD Predicts Heavy Snowfall, Rains in J&K; Travel Disruptions Likely

Srinagar, Feb 24, : A fresh western disturbance has become active over Jammu and Kashmir, bringing the possibility of heavy snowfall in higher reaches and rainfall in the plains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast significant weather changes between February 25 and 28, affecting both J&K and Ladakh.

In light of the approaching weather system, the Meteorological Center in Srinagar has issued a yellow watch, urging residents to stay updated about potential disruptions. Officials warn that heavy snowfall may impact key routes such as Sadhna Pass, Razdan Pass, Sonmarg-Zojila-Gumri, Mughal Road, and Sinthan Pass, potentially cutting off connectivity to these areas.

The adverse weather conditions may also lead to flight delays and cancellations due to poor visibility and snowfall accumulation. Additionally, the risk of landslides and rockfalls in hilly regions remains high, posing a threat to road travel and essential services.

Authorities have been advised to strengthen emergency response mechanisms, while travelers and residents, especially those in higher-altitude areas, are urged to take necessary precautions and stay informed about official weather updates.
