*One dead, another injured as hailstorm wreaks havoc in Lolab*

Srinagar, May 24 A 23-year-old youth died while another was injured after lightning struck them during severe weather conditions in Lolab area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Sunday, officials said.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that the duo was hit by lightning in Chandigam area amid heavy rain and thunderstorms.

He said they were immediately rushed to Sub-District Hospital Sogam, where doctors declared one of them brought dead, while the other was referred to Government Medical College Handwara for specialised treatment.

The deceased was identified as Abid Rahim Ganie (23), son of Abdul Rahim Ganie, while the injured was identified as Faizan Rahman Dar (24), son of Abdul Rahman, both residents of Chandigam Lolab.

The official said that after the completion of medico-legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his family members.

Meanwhile, a massive hailstorm battered several parts of Lolab Valley, causing extensive damage to orchards and standing crops, leaving farmers worried over heavy losses during the ongoing crop season.—(KNO)
