Highway To Open For Stranded Traffic From Chenani and Banihal: Officials

Srinagar, June 24 (GNS): Authorities on Friday said that Jammu-srinagar highway shall remain closed for the fifth day tomorrow except for stranded vehicles between Chenani and Banihal.  

“Tomorrow on 25 June 2022, subject to fair weather and good road condition only stranded vehicles between Chenani and Banihal will be cleared,” a traffic department official said in a statement to GNS.

The 270 km-long throughfare, the only surface link that connecting Kashmir with the outside world, remained closed for the fourth consecutive day on Friday due to landslides triggered by heavy rains in at several places.

Officials said that major landslide near Dewal bridge has damaged both tubes of highway road where restoration work could not be completed till today evening and will continue tomorrow also.

The Mughal road was however through for traffic.
“Truckers upto ten Tyre are advised to use Mughal road from Jammu towards Srinagar and vice-versa.”
The officials said Srinagar- Sonamarg-Gumri road would also be open for traffic.

“Subject to fair weather and good road condition, vehicular movement on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari road shall be allowed from both side viz Srinagar towards Kargil and vice-versa,” he said, adding, “LMVs will be released from Minamarg and Sonamarg at 0500 hrs upto 1700 hrs and HMVs will be released from Minamarg towards Srinagar at 0700 hrs. upto 1130 hrs. and from Sonamarg towards Kargil at 1300 hrs upto 1800 hrs.”

No vehicle shall be allowed between 1800 hrs and 0500 hrs, he added. (GNS)
