Massive Fire Guts Saw Mill in Anantnag, Property Worth Lakhs Damaged

Anantnag, May 28:A massive fire broke out during the intervening night in the Muniwar area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag, causing extensive damage to a saw mill and triggering panic in the locality.

Officials said the fire erupted late at night at the saw mill owned by Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Bhat of Khapora. The flames quickly engulfed the structure, damaging machinery, timber stocks and other property kept inside the mill.

Soon after the incident, firefighters and local residents rushed to the spot and launched efforts to contain the blaze. After several hours of hectic operation, the fire was brought under control, preventing it from spreading to nearby structures.

The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known, while officials said an assessment of the losses is being carried out. No loss of life or injuries were reported in the incident.

Police have taken cognizance of the matter and further investigation has been initiated.
