Kashmiri Woman Brings Organic Soaps to Every Home

Single Mother from Srinagar Turns Passion into Business

Sana Aftab, a single mother from Srinagar, is working hard to bring natural and organic soaps to every household. She started Mountain Soap Company, making handmade soaps from natural ingredients like herbs, spices, nuts, honey, and lavender.

Sana, who studied at NIT Srinagar and later earned an MBA from Barcelona and Manchester, began making soaps as a hobby during the COVID-19 lockdown. “At first, I made them for myself, but when my friends and family used them, they encouraged me to sell them,” she said.

Now, she wants to expand her business by setting up a factory in every district. “Kashmir has so many natural resources. I want to use them to create something good,” she added.

A mother of two, Sana is currently making the soaps by herself, while her friends help with other tasks. She also makes custom soaps for weddings and special events. “It takes about half an hour to make a soap, but it needs three weeks to fully cure,” she explained.

Though her business is still growing, Sana is hopeful for the future. “I love what I do, and I believe my hard work will soon pay off,” she said.
