Acting on specific information regarding the illegal cultivation of opium poppy at Lohar Senzi, Gadol area of Kokernag, Anantnag Police conducted a joint operation today with the assistance of the Executive Magistrate, Agriculture Department, FSL team, and Revenue officials.
During the operation, an illicit opium poppy crop spread over approximately two marlas of land was detected and destroyed on the spot in accordance with legal procedures. Samples of the crop were collected for forensic examination, while statements of local witnesses were recorded.
In this connection, FIR No. 62/2026 under Sections 8/18 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kokernag, and further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend those involved.
Anantnag Police remains committed to eradicating the menace of narcotics and urges the public to share information about any illegal drug-related activities in their areas.
