Chatroo Kishtwar case: Crime Branch takes over probe, six arrested

Amid mounting public outrage and demands for an independent investigation, the Jammu & Kashmir Crime Branch has taken over the probe into the alleged sexual exploitation, pregnancy, and death of a minor tribal girl from Chatroo, Kishtwar.
Six persons, including the alleged main accused, a teacher, and medical staff, have been arrested so far. The transfer of the case follows a petition filed by the victim’s father before the J&K and Ladakh High Court, seeking a fair and transparent investigation.
The Crime Branch will now examine the entire sequence of events, including the alleged sexual assault, pregnancy, medical treatment, attempted termination, and circumstances leading to the minor’s death.
