Vice Chancellor IUST chairs meeting on implementation of NEP 2020 in the technical education institutions of the UT of J&K

Awantipora, November 15: To facilitate the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 at technical institutions of the union territory, Skill Development Department of Government of J&K has constituted a committee under the chairmanship of Vice Chancellor IUST, Prof Shakil Ahmad Romshoo to look among other things into the introduction of CBCS in polytechnics, uniformity of syllabus among all polytechnics, establishment of academic bank of credits, introduction of duel degrees with D.Voc etc.

The 1st meeting of the committee was presided over by Prof. Shakil Ahmad Romshoo and was attended by Prof. A. H. Moon Dean Research IUST, Director Skill Development J&K, Prof. Gupta from NTTTR Chandigarh, Registrar J&K Board of Technical Education, Joint Director ITI Jammu & Kashmir and principals of various polytechnic colleges and officials from different technical education institutions. A draft roadmap prepared by the IUST for NEP 2020 implementation was discussed in the meeting.

Prof. Romshoo emphasized that NEP 2020 has heralded a new beginning in education that focusses on multidisciplinary and holistic education, skill development, vocational studies and flexible course structures that promote student centric learning and allows multidisciplinary academic mobility of students across institutions.

In his detailed presentation, Prof A H Moon, highlighted the strategy for Introduction of CBCS for 03 year Engineering Diploma Courses, Uniformity in syllabus in compliance with AICTE and NEP guidelines and introducting academic bank of credits.

Further, emphasizing on the need to develop effective linkages between educational institutions and industry, Vice-chancellor said, โ€œPolytechnic Colleges should compulsorily introduce internships in their curriculum so that the students get on-job training while in the study. The internship will help to transfer relevant skills to the students. So, institutions need to identify potential craftsmen and artisans where the studentsโ€™ internship can be facilitatedโ€.
