Awareness-cum drug de-addiction rally held in Sopore town

90 % youth, 30% girls in Sopore involved in drugs: Police

Sopore, Apr 26: In view of rising numbers of drug addiction cases, a drug de-addiction awareness rally was carried out in northern Sopore town of Baramulla district. The rally as per the organizers was taken with a motive to educate people especially students about the ill effects of drugs.

As per news agencyโ€”Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the awareness rally was organized by the district administration, Baramulla passed through the busiest Iqbal Market in town and culminated at Dak Banglow and was actively participated by hundreds of students of young age who expressed themselves through art-charts and paintings.

Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, SDPO Sopore, Dr Raies Ahmed Mir as per the news agency KNO highlighted and cautioned students about the negative impacts of drugs in society, says Drug abuse hampers one’s mental growth and person with such addiction should not be hated rather he should be counseled.

โ€œIn Sopore, 90 percent of youth are involved in drugs which includes 30 percent participation of girls,โ€ Raies said, adding that parents had a greater responsibility in social development of a child as they act as the first teacher and guide of their wards.

He also highlighted the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in the prevention of drug addiction, besides sought cooperation of people in eradicating the social evils prevailing in the society. “Police would be a helping hand to those who want to get rid of drug addiction”, he addedโ€”(KNO)
