Veterinary Day Celebrations concluded at Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-K

Srinagar: Directorate of Extension, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir today concluded the week long veterinary Day celebrations. The week long event conducted all across the KVKs of region on the instructions of Honorable Vice Chancellor Prof. Nazir Ahmed Ganai was directly monitored and supervised by Director Extension, Prof. Dil Mohammad Makhdoomi. While deliberating on the programme, Prof. Makhdoomi told that last Saturday of April is being celebrated all across the globe as World Veterinary Day with different themes. This year the day falls on April 29 and the theme for World Veterinary Day 2023 is ‘Promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusiveness in the Veterinary Profession’. Director Extension further said that this day marks the work that veterinary professionals and organizations are doing to help strengthen veterinary resilience while at the same time raising awareness of the important topic.

In this regard, a meeting was convened in the Directorate of Extension a week ago whereby all the KVKs of the valley were directed to organize two days event which should include awareness, sensitization and lecture series covering various schools, colleges and other educational institutes. In this regard all the KVKs of the region organized two days programmes in which importance of this day and role of veterinarians in ensuring good animal health was highlighted. Animal scientists from different KVKs delivered lectures on a variety of topics related to animal husbandry. These covered important topics importance of animal husbandry in economy of Union Territory as well as the country, care and management of animals, healthy feed and feeding habits, first aid and artificial insemination, care during lactation and pregnancy of animals, processing and value addition of milk and different government schemes for the promotion of livestock sector. Youths and students were also sensitized on different entrepreneurship opportunities in the animal husbandry sector. The officers/officials of animal husbandry department were also a part of this week long event. Consolidated lecture series of this day will be broadcasted on Krishi Radio of SKUAST-K soon for the benefit of all.
