Reckless Racing Claims Lives: SSP Traffic Highlights Alarming Trends in Srinagar

Srinagar, Nov 15: The Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic Srinagar City, Muzaffar Ahmad Shah, has revealed disturbing details about the tragic accident at Tengapora Bypass, which claimed the lives of two students. The fatal crash occurred during a reckless racing competition between two Thar Jeeps, highlighting critical lapses in road safety and parental oversight.

One of the involved vehicles, a Thar Jeep, had a history of four prior traffic challans, and its owner had been summoned twice for counseling by authorities. SSP Shah stressed the urgent need for parents to prevent underage driving, as one of the deceased had already been the subject of a prior warning issued to their family.

In a broader critique, SSP Shah called for societal cooperation to tackle underage driving. “Without the active involvement of society, our efforts will fall short,” he stated, expressing concern over societal apathy toward this growing issue.

In the aftermath of the accident, the traffic police launched a city-wide operation, seizing scores of two-wheelers and vehicles driven by unlicensed and underage individuals. This incident underscores the pressing need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and collective responsibility to ensure safer roads in Srinagar.
