Youth Protest Outside BJP Office in Jammu, Demand Age Relaxation and Oppose Reservation Policy

Jammu, Jan 1, : Scores of youth staged a nocturnal protest outside the BJP office in Jammu on New Year’s Eve, demanding age relaxation in the recruitment process and opposing what they called an “irrational” reservation policy. The protesters, largely from the Open Merit Category, said they chose to spend the night highlighting their concerns instead of celebrating the New Year.

Carrying placards and raising slogans, the protesters expressed their frustration with the current recruitment policies, particularly the lack of age relaxation for their category. “We are here because our voices have been ignored for too long. Instead of enjoying the New Year celebrations, we are compelled to stage this protest at night to draw the attention of the LG administration,” one of the protesters remarked.

The demonstration gained political backing when PDP leader Iltija Mufti expressed her support for the youth. Iltija Mufti called the protest justified and urged the administration to listen to the grievances of the Open Merit Category. “The demands of these young people are legitimate. Age relaxation is a fair ask, and the youth deserve equitable opportunities in the recruitment process,” she said.

The protesters criticized the reservation policy, arguing that it disadvantages candidates from the Open Merit Category.

The youth called upon the Lieutenant Governor’s administration to take immediate steps to address their demands, warning of continued protests if their concerns are not resolved.
