BJP Denies Claims of Amit Shah Proposing Renaming Kashmir as Kashyap
“This claim is untrue,” BJP spokesperson stated.
Srinagar, Jan 3, KNT: The BJP has clarified that a misleading claim is being circulated by several news channels and journalists, falsely stating that Home Minister Amit Shah suggested renaming Kashmir as Kashyap.
“During a recent book launch, Amit Shah remarked, “Kashmir is also known as the land of Kashyap. It is possible that Kashmir may have been named after Kashyap.” He did not suggest renaming the region but merely referred to a historical context.
“This misinformation has caused unnecessary confusion in Kashmir.”
The BJP urges journalists and media outlets to verify facts carefully before publishing.
DPAP leader Salman Nizami also addressed the matter, emphasizing that Amit Shah had only speculated on the historical origin of the name, stating, “‘Hosakta hai Kashmir ka naam Kashyap ke naam par padha hoga’ (It is possible that Kashmir was named after Kashyap).” He clarified that Shah did not propose renaming Kashmir and called for responsible reporting, as the misleading narrative has caused distress among many residents.
