*Employees’ protest in Srinagar demanding GP fund and DA hike foiled in Srinagar*

Srinagar, Jan 16 : A protest organized by the Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) in Srinagar on Thursday, demanding the release of General Provident (GP) Fund arrears and hike in Dearness Allowance (DA), was foiled by the authorities.
The employees had gathered at Press Enclave to voice their demands for long-pending dues and financial relief.
The protestors, according to news agency KINS, said that the government is ignoring their legitimate concerns, non-payment of GP Fund arrears and the delayed implementation of the DA hike were severely affecting employees’ finances amidst rising inflation.
Carrying placards and chanting slogans, the employees alleged that they had repeatedly approached the authorities, but their grievances remained unaddressed. “We have been left with no option but to hit the streets. Our financial stability is at stake,” said one protestor.
Police swiftly intervened and dispersed the crowd. Authorities cited prohibitory orders to justify their actions and maintained that the gathering was unauthorized.
Speaking to the media, EJAC representatives condemned the action, stating, “We will continue to fight for our demands peacefully.”
The protest highlights growing discontent among government employees in Jammu and Kashmir over pending financial issues. The EJAC has warned of intensifying their agitation if the government fails to meet their demands in the coming days. (KINS)
