Army Defuses Live Shells in Rajouri’s Nowshera to Protect Civilians

Srinagar, May 15, : The Indian Army’s bomb disposal squads have intensified efforts to locate and defuse unexploded shells in the Nowshera sub-division of Rajouri district, following heavy cross-border shelling during the recent Indo-Pak conflict.
These live projectiles, fired from across the Line of Control (LoC) by Pakistani forces, landed dangerously close to civilian homes, triggering widespread fear among residents. Army officials said their engineering units are working relentlessly to neutralize the threat and ensure the safety of local populations.
“Every day, our teams are deployed to identify and safely defuse unexploded shells. The objective is to prevent any casualties or injuries among the civilian population,” an army officer said.
Several areas in the border belt remain vulnerable, with locals reporting the presence of suspicious objects near homes and agricultural fields. Quick response teams have been rushing to such locations to carry out safe disposal operations.
“The ongoing defusal efforts have been crucial in restoring a sense of security among border residents, who continue to live under the shadow of periodic hostilities,” said an official.
The army has urged villagers to immediately report any unexploded ordnance to nearby military or police units and avoid handling such objects.
