GMC Anantnag Performs Complex Spinal Surgery on 70-Year-Old Patient with T2 IDEM Schwannoma, Sucessfully

A remarkable milestone was achieved by orthopedics, spine surgery and neurosurgical team from GMC Anantnag with the successful operation of a 70-year-old female patient suffering from a T2 intradural extramedullary (IDEM) schwannoma. Due to the condition the patient was suffering from bilateral lower limb myelopathy for the past six months. The advanced spinal surgery was performed on last friday by a multidisciplinary team led by Dr. Younis Kamal (HOD orthopedics and Spine Surgeon), Dr. Basharat Mujtaba (Neurosurgeon), and Dr. Suhail (Senior Resident orthopedics), with anaesthesia support from Dr. Anjum Shameem ( HOD Anesthesia), Dr. Zaffar Ahmad Malik ( Associate Prof. Anesthesia), Dr. Shaista (Consultant Anaesthetist), and Dr. Hashim, along with other dedicated OT staff.

The complex procedure was a success, with the patient’s lower limb movements preserved post-surgery. The patient is now recovering well in the ward, marking a significant achievement in patient care and surgical excellence at GMC Anantnag

Principal and Dean, GMC Anantnag Prof. Dr. Rukhsana Najeeb congratulated the whole team for performing such a demanding surgery needing multidisciplinary approach. She hoped that all the departments of GMC Anantnag will continue to work to the best of their potential and capability to heal the patients and relieve their sufferings.
