*‘Law and order” incident at SMHS hospital: Govt orders inquiry, remedial measures*
Srinagar, July 26 The Government has ordered an inquiry into the recent “law and order” incident at the Government Medical College (GMC) here.
According to a Government Order (No. 506-JK(HME of 2025), issued on July 25, the Health and Medical Education Department has appointed Baseer ul Haq Chaudhary (IAS), Mission Director, National Health Mission J&K, as the Enquiry Officer to investigate the “facts and circumstances” surrounding the July 23 incident as well as “access the immediate precursors” to it.
The officer, according to the order, a copy of which lies with GNS, has been also tasked to investigate reasons for closure of Operating Theatres (OTs) at GMC Srinagar, whether it was avoidable and “fix responsibility” upon individuals for “dereliction of duty or in contravention of established protocols”.
