Shopian Police Seize One Kilogram of Charas in Zainapora Raid

Shopian, Sept 28,: Shopian Police on Sunday recovered one kilogram of charas during a raid on a residential house in Zainapora.

Acting on credible information, Police Station Zainapora registered a case under FIR No. 77/2025 of the NDPS Act and obtained a search warrant from the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Shopian. A police team led by SHO Zainapora, Inspector Ghulam Jeelani, and accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class, carried out the raid at the residence of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, son of Sanaullah Sheikh, a resident of Humhuna Nagbal.

During the search operation, police recovered one kilogram of charas-like substance along with a grinder machine allegedly used for processing contraband material. However, the accused managed to evade arrest and is currently absconding. Police confirmed that efforts are underway to trace and apprehend him.

Officials said the successful raid was conducted under the close supervision of SDPO Zainapora Shri Waseem Ahmad (JKPS) and overall command of SSP Shopian Shri Anayat Ali Chowdhary (IPS).

Police reiterated their commitment to eradicate the drug menace and urged locals to extend cooperation by sharing information about such activities. “Strict action will continue against all individuals involved in drug trafficking,” an official said.
