*Pampore court convicts 12 in gambling case, awards one month jail*

Pulwama, Jan 30, : The Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Pampore, has convicted twelve persons in a gambling case registered as FIR No. 04/2026 at Police Station Pampore and sentenced them to simple imprisonment for a period of one month.

According to case details, the accused were booked under relevant provisions of the Jammu and Kashmir Gambling Act. During the course of proceedings, the accused admitted their guilt before the court.

After hearing both sides and following due legal process, Judicial Magistrate 1st Class Pampore Ms Uzma Amin observed that gambling is a social evil which adversely affects public order and undermines societal discipline. The court held that taking a lenient or casual view of such offences would amount to tacit encouragement and would defeat the statutory intent behind prohibiting gambling activities.

The court further observed that the sentence imposed was not merely meant to punish the offenders for the confessed violation of law, but to act as a clear deterrent, both at the individual and societal level, reaffirming that conduct threatening social order and family security would invite serious legal consequences.

The court also directed that the stake money seized during the raid be deposited in the government treasury in accordance with law.
