Police arrests 3 Gamblers and a drug peddler in Budgam; Contraband & Stake money seized

February 09: Continuing its crackdown on drug trafficking and other illegal activities, police in Budgam have arrested three gamblers and a drug peddler in separate actions.

Acting on specific information, a police party from Police Station Budgam, raided a gambling spot near Ompora Railway Crossing and apprehended three persons. During the raid, stake money of ₹4,600/- and playing cards were seized. The arrested persons were identified as Fayaz Ahmad Bhat, Raqib Ahmad Ganie, and Abdul Hameed Hajam, all residents of Ompora, Budgam.

Similarly, a police party from Police Station Magam, led by HC Maqbool Ahmed during routine patrol at Railway Link Road, Mazhama, intercepted a suspicious vehicle bearing registration number JK15B-7709. During search, 13 bottles of Codeine Phosphate (without labels) were recovered from the vehicle, and 07 strips of Tapentadol tablets (100 mg) were recovered from the personal possession of the driver. The accused was identified as Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh son of Ghulam Nabi Sheikh resident of Kanihama, and was arrested on the spot.

Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated.

Police reaffirm its commitment to maintain a crime-free society and will continue strict action against drug trafficking and other unlawful activities.
