March 27: Kulgam Police has achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing drive against drug trafficking by apprehending a drug peddler and recovering a substantial quantity of contraband substance.
On 26.03.2026, during routine naka checking at New Colony Sheikhpora, Kurigam, a suspicious individual carrying a polythene bag was intercepted. Upon noticing the police presence, he attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by the alert naka party.
During his search, a contraband substance Poppy Straw weighing approximately 1 kg 400 grams was recovered from his possession. The accused has been identified as Rafaqat Ahmad Khan S/o Mohd Sadiq Khan R/o New Colony Sheikhpora, Kurigam.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 52/2026 under Section 8/20 of the NDPS Act has been registered at the concerned Police Station. The accused has been arrested and the contraband seized. Further investigation is underway.
