*J&K Travel Advisory to Be Reassessed: US Envoy Sergio Gor*

Srinagar, Aug 19 US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Wednesday said Washington would reassess its travel advisory for Jammu and Kashmir.

Speaking to reporters, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), after meeting Chief Minister Omar Abdullah at his residence in Gupkar, Gor said the United States periodically reviews its travel advisories.

“The United States puts out travel warnings and every so often we re-evaluate those travel warnings. I cannot make any big announcements here today, but it is something we’re going to look at,” Gor said.

He said the Government of India and the J&K government had taken “some incredible steps” towards making the region safer.

“We will be looking at whether the travel warning that is imposed, that is recommended by the United States, is something that should be downgraded,” he said.

Gor, who is on his first visit to Jammu and Kashmir, described the region as “incredibly beautiful” and said many Americans could enjoy visiting it.

“This is a beautiful area. I think a lot of Americans would enjoy coming here and seeing the beauty and opportunities that exist here,” he said.

The envoy described his meeting with Omar as “very good” and “very cordial”, saying follow-up issues would be taken up with Washington and New Delhi.

“We have some follow-ups that we hope to take back to Washington, back to Delhi, but very warm, very cordial, and we look forward to building this relationship forward,” Gor added. —(KNO)
