Absconder Arrested After 14 Years, Another Surrenders in Doda

Doda, February 01- – In a major breakthrough, the Doda Police successfully arrested an absconder who had been evading arrest for over 14 years. Liyakat Hussain, wanted in connection with case No. 199/2008 under sections 379 and 406 of the RPC at Bhaderwah Police Station, was apprehended from his native village in Sumbli Darhal, Rajouri.
According to SSP Doda Sh. Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), the accused had been on the run since 2008, and despite a warrant issued by the Bhaderwah court in 2011, he managed to evade capture for years. A dedicated police team, led by Inspector Sandeep Parihar, was formed to track him down using both human intelligence and technical resources. The successful operation resulted in his arrest, and he was promptly produced before the court.
Meanwhile, in another development, the increased pressure from police operations led to the surrender of another absconder. Mohd Sikander, son of Gh Mohd and resident of Kokernag, who had been evading arrest since 2017, surrendered before the Additional Sessions Judge in Doda. Following court orders, he was lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah.
The Doda Police has intensified efforts under a special drive to apprehend absconders and other criminals, forming specialized teams at various police stations. Over the past three months, 12 absconders have been arrested and produced before the court, demonstrating the department’s commitment to law enforcement and justice.
Authorities have reiterated their determination to bring all fugitives to justice and have urged the public to cooperate with the police in maintaining law and order in the region.
