No Increase in Central Assistance for Jammu & Kashmir in Union Budget 2025-26

Srinagar, Feb 1: The Union Government has allocated Rs 41,000.07 crore for Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in the Union Budget for the financial year 2025-26. However, this marks no increase in the central assistance as compared to the previous year.

Of the total allocation, Rs 40,619.30 crore has been earmarked to address J&K’s resource gap, with Rs 279 crore set aside for the Union Territory Disaster Response Fund. Additionally, Rs 101.77 crore will go toward funding infrastructure projects.

While the overall financial assistance remains at Rs 41,000.07 crore, the allocation for the current fiscal year has been revised downwards to Rs 41,000.07 crore from Rs 42,277.74 crore, reflecting a decrease in available funds for the region.

The budget proposal has received mixed reactions, with many questioning the stagnation in the financial support provided to J&K amidst growing demands for development and disaster management in the region.
