*GMC Anantnag Organizes Walkathon to Mark 100-Day ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan’*

The Department of Psychiatry, Government Medical College Anantnag, successfully organized a Walkathon under the 100-Day “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” to raise awareness against substance abuse and promote a drug-free society.
Over 200 participants, including faculty members, residents, internees, medical officers, paramedical staff, ministerial staff, MBBS students, nursing students, and psychology students, assembled at the Main Campus, GMC Anantnag at 9:30 AM. The Walkathon was flagged off at 9:35 AM by the Principal/Dean GMC Anantnag Prof Dr Rukhsana Najeeb after a briefing and distribution of banners and placards.
The rally proceeded from the Main Campus Dialgam Anantnag, with participants displaying banners and raising awareness slogans on drug de-addiction. Miss Sumreena and Mrs. Shayista led the slogan activities, engaging the public along the route and promoting a healthy, drug-free lifestyle.
Dr. Mansoor Ahmad, HOD Psychiatry and Coordinator of the event, said the event was held to “create mass awareness regarding the ill effects of substance abuse and to motivate youth towards a drug-free future.” Dr. Rehana Amin , Assistant Prof Psychiatry ensured discipline and coordination throughout the event.
The logistics were managed by Mr. Sameer and Mrs. Towheeda, while Mr. Aadil and Mr. Bushan oversaw procurement of banners and refreshment packs. Security Guards-Dialgam handled crowd management and safety.
The Walkathon concluded at 10:30 AM with distribution of refreshment packs and a group photograph.
Dr. Younus Ahmad a post graduate student at Psychiatry department has noted the enthusiastic participation of students, who pledged to act as ambassadors for a drug-free society.
The Department of Psychiatry reiterated its commitment to community outreach and mental health awareness, stating:
“Let us join hands and pledge to contribute towards a Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan.”
