Hyderabad: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has asked the Uttar Pradesh unit of the party to reach out to Dalit Muslims, sources said.
The suggestion came during the discussion on the political proposal in the morning session of the BJP’s National Executive, when Uttar Pradesh BJP President Swatantra Dev Singh was discussing the results of the by-elections for Rampur and Azamgarh Lok Sabha seats.
According to sources, the Prime Minister asked party to focus on communities which have traditionally not voted for the BJP, and the non-Hindu backward communities including the Pasmanda Muslims.
Modi suggested that he should establish contact with the people of the Pasmanda community who have got or are getting the benefit of government schemes.
He also said that no one could have imagined that the BJP can win a seat like Azamgarh.
By-polls in Azamgarh of Uttar Pradesh were held last month. The election was held as Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, sitting MP from Azamgarh resigned after getting elected as MLA from Karhal.
BJP candidate Dinesh Lal Yadav Nirahua won the seat polling over 34 percent votes, while Dharmendra Yadav of SP came second getting around 33 percent votes.
BSP’s Shah Alam alias Guddu Jamali, who finished third, polled more than 29 percent votes. He was backed by AIMIM and Rashtriya Ulama Council.
Azamgarh has around 20 percent Muslim votes followed by 15 percent Yadav and Jatav votes.
At the two-day National Executive meet of the BJP which concluded here today, the party gave a call to end politics of appeasement, casteism as well as dynastic politics in the country, and called for development oriented and ‘positive’ politics.
