New Delhi- To commemorate the running of the first train in the country between Bori-bunder and Thane, Indian Railways celebrate the Railway Week every year during April. This year Northern Railway is celebrating its 68th Railway Week.
Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager, Northern Railway presided over the Awards Distribution Ceremony held today i.e. on 8th February 2024 at National Rail Museum, Chankayapuri, New Delhi. Ajay Kumar Singhal, Additional General Manager and all the Principal Heads of the various departments, other senior railway officials and railway employees of Northern Railway, Members of Unions Associations & Federations, President, Northern Railway Women Welfare Organization. (NRWWO) Smt. Sanneeti Chaudhuri and other Members of NRWWO were present on the occasion.

The ceremony started with facilitation of 100 railway employees (Officers & Staff) for their meritorious services by Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager, Northern Railway. 54 running shields were presented by the General Manager, based on performance-oriented parameters. Ambala Division has been awarded with the General Manager’s Excellence Shield. Delhi Division was declared the Best overall performance in all fields, hence was awarded the shield for its overall performance. Firozpur Division has been awarded for its Most Economical Functioning. Best improved division shield has been awarded to Moradabad Division .
Speaking on the occasion, the General Manager lauded officers and staff for various achievements of the zone in core functional areas. He stated that this year has been an encouraging one for us. Northern Railways has achieved unprecedented growth in our infrastructure and services. It was an honor for Northern Railway when Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation the first phase of renovated Ayodhya Dham Railway station from Ayodhya.
Chaudhuri was pleased to mention that all railway men are aware of the responsibility. Northern Railway has earned Rs. 7869 crores from 35-million-ton Cargo Loading. Earned Rs.349 crore from parcel & goods loading and achieved first position among all Zonal Railways. Ran 266 special trains during Deepawali and Chhath Puja festival besides augmenting 510 regular trains. Launched “One Station, One Product” scheme at 126 stations over NR and 1582 beneficiaries earned 04.39 crore rupees. 95 % route of NR has been electrified. 19 pairs of coaching trains have been converted from diesel to electric traction and registered Rs. 23 crore recurring annual saving in high-speed diesel. On Delhi-Mumbai and New Delhi- Kolkata route, work is in progress to increase the trains speed up to 160 KMPH. 03 Gati Shakti Cargo Terminals have been completed on NR. 68 Km. long Rohtak – Meham new line has opened for the public after CRS clearance. All the seven stations between Banihal and SMVD Katra have been completed and remaining work is in full swing on this section under the USBRL Project.
