Action Against illegal Mining: J&K Police in Shopian Seize 04 Vehicles; 04 FIRs Registered

SHOPIAN, April 16: Continuing its sustained drive against illegal mining, Shopian Police have seized four vehicles involved in the unauthorized extraction and transportation of minerals across various areas of the district.
During routine patrolling, a police party from Police Station Zainapora seized one JCB found engaged in illegal mining activities without the requisite permissions. Accordingly, FIR No. 57/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Zainapora and investigation has been initiated.
In a similar action, a police party from Police Station Heerpora seized one platform (jungle truck) involved in the illegal transportation of mining materials without mandatory permissions. Additionally, Police Post Sadipora seized one tractor engaged in similar activities. In this connection, FIR No. 23/2026 and 24/2026 under relevant provisions of law have been registered at Police Station Heerpora and investigation has been taken up.
Similarly, a police party from Police Station Keller seized one tractor found involved in illegal mining without the required permissions. In this regard, FIR No. 37/2026 under relevant provisions of law has been registered at Police Station Keller and further investigation is underway.
Shopian Police reiterates its firm commitment to safeguarding the district’s natural resources and ensuring strict legal action against individuals involved in illegal mining. The general public is urged to cooperate by reporting any such unlawful activities. The identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential and strict action will be taken against violators
