Qazigund Youth Dies After Accident; Family Alleges Medical Negligence at GMC Anantnag, Probe Ordered

Anantnag, April 19:
A young man from the Qazigund area of south Kashmir died after sustaining critical injuries in a tragic accident at the Fruit and Vegetable Mandi in Ashajipora, with his family alleging medical negligence at Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag and demanding a thorough probe into the incident.
The deceased has been identified as Bilal Ahmad Mir, son of Late Abdul Rehman Mir, a resident of Yarhole Baihama in Qazigund.
According to reports, Bilal suffered severe injuries following an accident near the busy mandi area in Ashajipora. He was immediately rushed to GMC Anantnag for emergency treatment. However, his family members alleged that despite his critical condition, there was a lack of timely and adequate medical attention at the hospital.
The family claimed that essential medical staff were not readily available during the crucial period, which they believe contributed to the deterioration of his condition.
β€œHe was struggling for life, but there was no prompt response from the hospital staff. Had he received proper and timely treatment, he might have survived,” a family member alleged, while demanding strict action against those responsible.
The bereaved family has urged authorities to conduct a fair and transparent investigation into the incident, stressing the need to examine the role of the hospital administration and ensure accountability in the functioning of emergency healthcare services.
Meanwhile, Medical Superintendent of GMC Anantnag, Dr. Arshad Hassan Siddiqie, acknowledged the incident and assured that the matter would be investigated thoroughly.
β€œWe will look into all aspects of the case. If any negligence is found, strict action will be taken against those responsible,” he said.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who have raised serious questions about the efficiency and responsiveness of emergency medical services at the hospital. Many have appealed to the authorities to take immediate corrective measures to prevent such incidents in the future and to strengthen the healthcare system in the region.
