The Jammu and Kashmir government has designated special fast-track courts in Jammu and Srinagar for the trial of offences under the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024.
According to a notification issued by the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs on October 23, the government has designated the court of the 1st Additional District and Sessions Judge, Jammu, and the Court of the 1st Additional District and Sessions Judge, Srinagar as special fast track courts for the purpose.
The notification was issued in exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (2) of Section 12A of the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024, in consultation with the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
The order was issued by the government on behalf of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and signed by Achal Sethi, Commissioner Secretary to the Government, Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs.
The act aims to prevent unfair means in public examinations and provide a legal framework to deal with examination-related malpractices. The designation of the special courts provides a designated judicial mechanism for the trial of offences covered under the legislation.
