PM Modi to Inaugurate Five New Modern Trains Connecting Delhi to Kashmir

Srinagar, Dec 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate five new state-of-the-art trains in January, enhancing connectivity between Delhi and Kashmir. Each train will consist of 22 coaches and incorporate advanced technology and design to ensure maximum comfort for passengers.

These fully air-conditioned sleeper trains are specially equipped with onboard heating systems to cater to Kashmir’s cold climate, providing a comfortable travel experience during harsh winter months. Additionally, the trains will feature enhanced safety measures, including extra security checks, considering the unique security requirements of Jammu and Kashmir.

Indian Railways announced that five rakes are ready for service, although the trains will be introduced in phases rather than all at once. The launch schedule depends on approval from the Commission of Railway Safety (CRS). Notably, the 17-kilometer Katra-to-Reasi section of the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link is still under construction, with CRS inspections expected in the first week of January.

Designed to handle extreme weather conditions, the trains come with features like snow-resistant coach wheels and front glass for the engines, preventing snow accumulation. Heating systems inside the coaches will also help mitigate the impact of freezing temperatures.

To ensure passenger safety, enhanced security protocols will include rigorous screening similar to airport procedures for those traveling to Srinagar. Coaches will be sanitized before every departure, and the number of Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel onboard will be increased.

These modern trains mark a significant step in improving rail connectivity to Kashmir, promising enhanced safety, comfort, and reliability for passengers while showcasing the Indian Railways’ commitment to innovation and regional development.
