We prioritized the welfare of people during our time in power: Mehbooba Mufti

Budgam, Sept 22: The President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mehbooba Mufti, on Sunday said that the PDP has consistently prioritized the welfare of the populace during its time in power.
Addressing a gathering in Beerwah Main Town, Mufti remarked that during Omar Abdullahโ€™s tenure as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, he was aligned with the agenda of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
โ€œWhen we formed a government in coalition with the BJP, there were specific agreements between the BJP and PDP, with the Kashmir issue being a significant point of discussion. This included the reopening of the Line of Control (LOC) trade routes with our neighboring country, Pakistan, and the return of power projects to the Jammu and Kashmir government,โ€ she said
Mufti emphasized that the residents of Jammu and Kashmir are encountering numerous challenges due to the absence of an elected government as there is no one who can listen to their issues.
โ€œThe PDPโ€™s agenda extends beyond mere development in Jammu and Kashmir; it also encompasses the resolution of the Kashmir issue,โ€ Mufti added.
She mentioned that individuals currently imprisoned could potentially be released through the electoral process. She highlighted the case of Engineer Rashid, who, despite winning a parliamentary seat, was not released until he secured bail for the elections. Mufti pointed out the misconception that winning an election guarantees release from jail, which she deemed incorrect. She questioned why the government did not release engineer Rashid after his electoral victory in North Kashmir.
โ€œI urge the government to release Sarjan Barkati, as his daughter is facing significant difficulties; she is like my own daughter. Furthermore, why was Engineer Rashid not released after winning the parliamentary elections in North Kashmir?โ€ Mufti questioned.
