Live grenade recovered during CASO in Baramulla’s Tappar Kreeri

Baramulla, Nov 19, Security forces on Wednesday recovered a live Chinese grenade during a routine cordon-and-search operation in the Tappar Kreeri area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, officials said.

According to police, the operation was jointly conducted by the Special Operations Group Kreeri and the 2nd Battalion of the Sashastra Seema Bal at the Agricultural Seed Forum in Tappar Kreeri. The teams launched systematic searches in and around the complex after inputs regarding suspicious movement in the locality. (CNS)

Officials said that during the course of the search, a live Chinese grenade was found in an orchard adjacent to the forum. The explosive was immediately secured and taken into possession by police for further investigation and safe disposal.

Security personnel intensified searches in the locality following the recovery, aiming to ascertain whether the explosive had been recently placed or left behind earlier. No arrests were reported till the time of filing this report, and authorities said the matter is being probed to identify those behind the act.

Police said additional security checks have been initiated in the surrounding areas to ensure there is no further threat to locals.
