Pattan Khidmat Centre Theft Solved; Kulgam Man Arrested, Rs 5,130 Recovered Accused Allegedly Stole Rs 83,000 During Friday Prayers; Police Link Him to 14 Earlier Theft Cases Across Kashmir

Baramulla Police have solved a theft case reported from a Khidmat Centre in the Pattan area with the arrest of a Kulgam resident and recovery of part of the stolen cash.
According to a police handout issued to KNC, a complaint was received at Police Station Pattan on September 25 from Mir Waheed, son of Mohd Ayoub Mir, resident of Mamoosa, Pattan, who operates a Khidmat Centre bearing Code No. JKBAR5691 at Mirpora, Mamoosa.
The complainant told police that he had left the centre to offer Jumma prayers. When he returned, he found that an unidentified person had entered the premises and allegedly stolen Rs 83,000 in cash. The CCTV storage device installed at the centre was also found missing.
Following the complaint, FIR No. 222/2026 was registered at Police Station Pattan under Sections 305 and 331(3) of the BNS, and an investigation was launched.
During the investigation, police used technical inputs and the ICJS Portal to identify the suspect as Rameez Ahmad Naikoo, son of Gh. Mohammad Naikoo, resident of Bhan, Kulgam.
A police team was subsequently dispatched to Kulgam, where the accused was apprehended and arrested following sustained investigative efforts.
Police said that during questioning, the accused disclosed information leading to the recovery of Rs 5,130 in cash from his residential house. The recovered amount was seized in accordance with the prescribed legal procedure.
Linked to 14 Earlier Theft Cases
Police further stated that verification through the ICJS and records of various police stations revealed that the accused had allegedly been involved in 14 previous theft-related cases registered at different police stations across the Valley.
These cases include those registered at Qazigund, Keller Shopian, Srigufwara Anantnag, Rajpora Pulwama, Awantipora, Pattan, Kokernag, Handwara, Tarzoo, Tral and Anantnag, among other police stations.
Police said the arrest and recovery constitute a significant development in the ongoing investigation.
Further investigation is underway to establish the accused’s role in the present theft and to recover the remaining stolen property, police said.(KNC)
