Night temperature hovers below normal in J&K

Night temperature continued to hover below normal despite rise in mercury at most places in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, officials said.

A meteorological department official here told GNS Srinagar recorded a minimum of 7.0ยฐC against 8.2ยฐC on the previous night and it was 1.9ยฐC below normal for the summer capital of JK for this time of the year.

Qazigund recorded a minimum of 7.2ยฐC against 5.4ยฐC on the previous night and it was 0.3ยฐC below normal for the gateway town of Kashmir, he said.

Pahalgam recorded a low of 3.6ยฐC against 2.4ยฐC on the previous night and it was 0.4ยฐC below normal for the famous resort in south Kashmir.

Kokernag, also in south Kashmir, recorded a minimum of 7.7ยฐC against 5.5ยฐC on the previous night and it was 0.1ยฐC above normal, the official said.

Kupwara town recorded a low of 6.7ยฐC against 6.2ยฐC on the previous night and it was 0.9ยฐC below normal there, the official said.

Gulmarg recorded a low of 2.5ยฐC against 1.0ยฐC on the previous night and it was below normal by 0.8ยฐC for the world famous skiing resort in north Kashmirโ€™s Baramulla district.

Jammu, he said, recorded a minimum of 18.6ยฐC against 19.1ยฐC on the previous night and it was below normal by 2.4ยฐC for the winter capital of J&K.

Banihal recorded a low of 8.6ยฐC, Batote 9.7ยฐC and Bhaderwah 7.1ยฐC, he said.

Regarding the forecast, he said, till April 25, generally dry weather is expected but afternoon thundershower/hailstorm activity at isolated places canโ€™t be ruled out.

From April 26-28, he said, there is possibility of generally cloudy weather with light to moderate rain and light snow (over higher reaches) with thunder at most places.

From April 29-30, generally cloudy weather with light rain with thunder at many places has been predicted. Generally dry weather has been forecast from May 1-3. (GNS)
