*Anantnag Police destroys Illegal Cultivation of Poppy; Two Cases Registered Under NDPS Act*

Anantnag Police have taken strict action against the illegal cultivation of opium poppy in the district, registering cases under the NDPS Act and initiating investigations.

In one instance, Police Station Mattan received reliable information regarding the illegal cultivation of opium poppy by Ab Majeed Sheikh, son of Late Ali Sheikh, a resident of Babagund. Acting promptly on this information, a joint team visited the specified land, where opium poppy plants were found growing. The operation was carried out in the presence of officials from the Agriculture Department and the Executive Magistrate. Accordingly, FIR No. 44/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Mattan, and further investigation has been set into motion.

In a separate action, Police Station Utrasoo, in coordination with revenue officials, destroyed illegally cultivated opium poppy plants on land belonging to Nisar Ahmad Wani, son of Mohd Ramzan Wani, a resident of Cherpora Chatergul. The land is located at Pati Sheikhpora, Cherpora. In this regard, FIR No. 43/2026 under Section 8/18 of the NDPS Act has been registered, and investigation is underway.

Anantnag Police reiterate their commitment to eradicating the menace of drug cultivation and urge the public to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by sharing any information related to such illegal activities.
