A moderate-intensity earthquake of magnitude 5.9 struck the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border region on Friday, with tremors felt across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said.
According to initial data, the quake occurred at 16:12:58 UTC, with its epicentre located at coordinates 36.52ยฐN latitude and 71.01ยฐE longitude, at a depth of 175 kilometres.
Residents in parts of Kashmir reported feeling tremors, triggering panic as people rushed out of their homes and offices. However, there were no immediate reports of any damage to property or loss of life.
Officials said the deep focus of the earthquake likely reduced its impact on the surface, though tremors were still widely felt across the region.
