Left Parties Unite to Demand Amit Shah’s Resignation Over Ambedkar Remarks

New Delhi, Dec 23, : In a show of unity, leaders from various Left parties, including the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)], and others, gathered in New Delhi to condemn Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s derogatory comments about Dr. B. R. Ambedkar in the Rajya Sabha.
The parties issued a joint statement demanding Shah’s resignation, citing his remarks as a catalyst for widespread anger and protests nationwide.
The Left parties also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for not taking responsibility or remedial action regarding Shah’s comments. In response, the parties have decided to continue their protests, with a nationwide protest day scheduled for December 30, calling for Shah’s resignation.
Furthermore, the Left parties expressed strong opposition to the ‘One Nation, One Election’ proposal, arguing that it undermines the federal structure and the rights of State legislatures and their electorates. They also demanded the withdrawal of the amendment to the Conduct of Election Rules, which annuls the right of public inspection of electronic documents.
The meeting concluded with a decision to intensify Left intervention on political and public issues, with regular meetings to project Left policies and promote joint actions. The joint statement was signed by top leaders of the participating parties, including D Raja, General Secretary, CPI, and Prakash Karat, Co-ordinator, Polit Bureau, CPI(M).
